FREDERICK WILLIAM COLLEY 1907-1957
Greek Myth
Colour lithograph. 1939 On thin japan. Signed and numbered 5/7.
440 x 340mm.

£375

Frederick William Colley was a member of the RBSA (Royal Birmingham Society of Artists) and a prominent exhibiting member of the Senefelder Club; an organisation formed in 1910 to promote lithography as a medium for original prints. He exhibited widely during the 1930s and 40s, worked as a muralist (including a commission for the Federation of British Industrialists in Birmingham) and was employed to teach Art and Design at Birmingham College of Art.

Lithography provided the perfect vehicle for his printmaking skills. His prints were large, tonal and often strikingly colourful, with a distinctly 'bizarre' element in the treatment of his subject matter. The fanciful composition of this colour lithograph, 'Greek Myth', demonstrates one aspect of his original and decorative style .
